Love after 50: 85% of seniors still believe in it

The cliché is stubborn: past a certain age, people would have « moved on » from love. A Domitys survey, conducted with Ipsos in January 2019 among 675 people 50 and older, tells a very different story.

85% of the seniors surveyed still firmly believe they can fall in love. The figure climbs to 95% among « younger » seniors aged 50 to 64, and stays a majority well beyond that: 86% of those 65 and older, and still 65% of those 75 and older.

The gap also shows by gender: 88% of the men surveyed think they can still fall in love, versus 83% of women, a narrow gap, far from the image of a desire that fades with age.

The study also shows that seniors don't look for love the way younger generations do: dating sites remain fairly unpopular for that purpose. 47% prefer clubs and associations (leisure, sport, culture, travel), 17% reconnect with old acquaintances on social media, and 9% try events organized for singles.
