Organic food: seniors are France's biggest market, not its last
The cliché is stubborn: seniors supposedly eat « the old way », wary of organic food, loyal to the same brands for forty years. The market numbers tell a different story.
According to a Foodinnov/Xerfi study on senior nutrition, this generation now accounts for €43 billion in French food retail, nearly one purchase in two. This isn't a niche market served as an afterthought: it's a central share of the country's food economy.
Even more striking: 66% of seniors describe themselves as organic food enthusiasts. That figure goes well beyond the image of a generation resistant to food innovation, it instead describes a demanding audience that consciously links food, health and prevention.
For anyone building an offer, retail, food service, home delivery, ignoring this audience, or serving it a watered-down offer, means giving up the heart of the market rather than its leftovers.
